WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY
My initial perception of the HBCU Professional Development Program was merely as another requirement from my professor to enhance my architectural knowledge. However, my experience defied expectations. The program exceeded my expectations, proving to be both delightful and remarkable. The organizers ensured ample communication, equipping me adequately for participation in the numerous hosted events. Collaborations with various sponsors and firms aimed at enhancing students' transition into professional practice further emphasized the program's value.

The HBCU Professional Development Program was very helpful due to its seminar topics, meeting times, and resources. The sessions were often enough to be accommodating but not too often where they repeatedly conflicted with my schedule. When I had to miss a seminar, the program directors always provided recordings so I was able to catch up. In addition, there were always so many professionals eager to assist me and my peers so it was easy to network even though the program was virtual. I would definitely recommend that every HBCU architecture student participate in next year's cohort.

When I first signed up for the NOMA HBCU Professional Development Program, I didn't realize just how much it would shape my professional growth. I knew it would be helpful, but I had no clue it would make such a big difference. The volunteers in the program were crucial—they gave me feedback that helped me improve my resume and portfolio, and I even got noticed by several companies because of it. Going to every single meeting, I saw firsthand the effort put into the program, and I'm really thankful for that.

My impression for the PDP program was if you need skills on how to become a professional in the architectural world and you’re a minority and you’re not going through NOMA then there is a problem and you’re not setting yourself up for the most amount of success. Joining NOMA is the connector for peace throughout this profession.

The program has given me an opportunity to not only further my professional career, but also allowed me to become someone other black, female architecture students can look to for inspiration by showing that hard work and passion can and will get you far in life.

Honestly, I was nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t have an internship the summer prior so I believed this program could help me in all aspects. During this program with the help various mentors I was able to create a portfolio of which I am very proud of and continue to receive positive feedback. I gained more confidence in myself. With my new found confidence I am able to both express and promote myself in a positive light with whomever I encounter.
